It’s the Primetime Emmy Awards! Our picks for Best Actor and Actress

Ladies and Gentlemen, its Emmy time! This Sunday, September 22 the Primetime Emmy Awards will be given out. According to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the best of the best in television will be given the honor of a golden statue. Some may say that the same people get the award every year, but who are we kidding? We still watch and everyone still wants one. So without further adieu below are picks some of us at Commercial Break think will take home that Emmy statue for the Best Actor and Actress categories.
The nominees:
Hugh Bonneville, Downton Abbey, PBS
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad, AMC
Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom, HBO
Jon Hamm, Mad Men, AMC
Damian Lewis, Homeland, Showtime
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards, Netflix
Bryan-Cranston2 The Laurene pick: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
MJP pick: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad. Another amazing group of actors… This is a tough  one too… My top 3 are Bryan, Damian, and Kevin… But I think Bryan will win. People are crazy  for him and his show.
Funmi pick: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad. I just don’t think there is anyone else in this category who even holds a candle to Bryan Cranston on Breaking Bad.

Jason Bateman, Arrested Development, Netflix
Louis C.K., Louie, FX
Don Cheadle, House of Lies, Showtime
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes, Showtime
Jim Parsons, Big Bang Theory, CBS
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock, NBC
The Laurene pick: Louis CK, Louie or Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock (it was their final season for 30 Rock after all!)
MJP pick: Alec Baldwin… Same for this category… I think voters will want to give Alec one more emmy for his work on the final season of 30 Rock.
Funmi pick: This is a toss up between Jim Parsons for Big Bang and Don Cheadle. Jim is a critics darling, but Don has come in with the surprise win for his role on House of Lies.
Michael DouglasBehind The CandelabraHBO
Matt Damon, Behind The CandelabraHBO
Toby Jones, The GirlHBO
Benedict CumberbatchParade’s EndHBO
Al PacinoPhil SpectorHBO
matt-damon-michael-douglas-behind-the-candelabra-hboThe Laurene pick: Michael Douglas or Matt Damon – Behind the Candelabra got a lot of buzz  and I’ve only heard great things about these two.
MJP pick: Haven’t been able to see any of these programs yet, but I think this will go to Michael  Douglas. He’s this year’s Julianne Moore, since this was a high profile HBO hit. Matt Damon could possibly take the award… I heard he looks great in his speedo.
Funmi pick: I can’t believe both Matt Damon and Michael Douglas are nominated in this category. Michael will win, unless there is something a little unexpected this year. A tie! perhaps.
The nominees:
Connie Britton, Nashville, ABC
Claire Danes, Homeland, Showtime
Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey, PBS
Vera Farmiga, Bates Motel, A&E
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men, AMC
Kerry Washington, Scandal, ABC
Robin Wright, House of Cards, Netflix
The Laurene pick: I want Elisabeth Olson to win for Mad Men because Peggy has been phenomenal, BUT I think it might go to Michelle Dockery for Downton Abbey.
MJP pick: Claire Danes… This is a really tough category this year… All of these women are playing great characters so well but i think it’s between Claire, Vera, and Robin… And Claire’s performance is just the right mix of understated and showy.

Funmi pick: Kerry Washington, Kerry Washington, Kerry Washington! Olivia Pope can solve anything! Give her an Emmy!
Lena Dunham, Girls, HBO
Laura Dern, Enlightened, HBO
Tiny Fey, 30 Rock, NBC
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation, NBC
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep, HBO
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie, Showtime
The Laurene pick: Laura Dern could be a surprise win now that Enlightened is canceled (wouldn’t be the first time for a win post-cancellation), but I am rooting for Julia Louis Dreyfus for Veep.
MJP pick: Tina Fey… This is a stellar group of women… In my opinion, it’s a four way tie between Tina, Julia, Amy, and Laura (I’m still grieving over the cancellation of “Enlightened”). But Tina Fey is a comedic genius and i think voters will want to give this to her for her final season of 30 Rock.
Funmi pick: Julia Louis-Dreyfus. But I have a feeling they will give it to Tina Fey.
Jessica LangeAmerican Horror StoryFX
Laura LinneyThe Big C: HereafterShowtime
Helen Mirren, Phil Spector, HBO
Sigourney Weaver, Political Animals, USA
Elisabeth Moss, Top of the Lake, Sundance Channel
The Laurene pick: Here I think Elisabeth Moss could score a win for Top of the Lake, BUT again, I think it could go to Helen Mirren for Phil Spector.
MJP pick: Jessica Lange… No competition here. She is a powerful performer.
Funmi pick: Please, Jessica Lange.
